rad person of the day!

Zachari Logan is a Canadian artist who I found because he added me on myspace. I'm totally into his paintings and drawings... While I'm not usually drawn to gay themed artwork (odd I know)... there is something about his that I really enjoy. While he doesn't have a website, you can find his work if you just google him. Below is a link to his myspace though.

come and gone.

So my birthday has come and gone. I spent the majority of the day inside, and hung out with Trina. I am no good at rallying the troops and making some big to-do about myself. I'd rather just have small gatherings with individual groups of people and watch a movie or go out to dinner. So throughout the week I'll probably have a few here and there. Other than that, things are very very quiet here. I'm staying in a lot besides when I'm working to save money, because things are slow at the moment and money is super tight. Love that economy.

So I've also been spending a lot of time looking at photographs and editing for my show in March. Jennifer Pastore was such an amazing subject, and I love the photographs of her. This one is one of the new favorites of mine.

p.s. I am not ashamed to say it. I love the new Britney Spears. I'll leave it at that.

getting older every minute.

So it's my birthday.... and I'm leaving you with some more photographs of Lyle because I think he is the hottest thing ever. I'm no good at celebrating myself, and never can plan anything either. I just want to play video games and have good food when I wake up. I figured having a lame long Thanksgiving post was unnecessary. I had a nice relaxing day with friends and came home to spend the evening with my lady Trina. She is the best company all the time. She's been cuddling a lot with me in bed lately, and I'm ok with it.

I spent the end part of my evening watching the last two episodes of Ghost Whisperer that I missed. I don't know why that show makes me cry so much... it may be Jennifer Love Hewitt's perfection of crying. She cries every episode, and so damn well, I don't know how she does it.

ALSO, Rosie Live.... Seriously, I love it. Totally into it. Plus Kathy Griffin was on impersonating Nancy Grace. Genius. I may have peed myself a little bit from laughing so much.

P.S. My sleep schedule has officially gone off the deep end, and I can't get to bed before 7 and I wake up at 10. I need some Ambien and fast.

oh stevie nicks how i love thee.

No one looked as I walked by
Just an invitation would have been just fine
Said no to him again and again
First he took my heart then he ran

No one knows how I feel
What I say unless you read between my lines
One man walked away from me
First he took my hand take me home

Stand back stand back
In the middle of my room
I did not hear from you
Its alright its alright
To be standing in a line
Standing in a line
I would cry

Do not turn away my friend
Like a willow I can bend
No man calls my name
No man came

So I walked on down away from you
Maybe your attention was more
Than you could do
One man did not call
He asked me for my love
And that was all

Stand back stand back
In the middle of my room
I did not hear from you
Its alright its alright
To be standing in a line
Standing in a line
Standing in a line

So I walked on down the line
Away from you
Maybe your attention was more
Than I could do
One man did not call
Well he asked me for my love
That was all

part two - 5 things going on with my photography.

1. This photograph of PJ, which is one of my favorites, will be in the December issue of PDN. Featured as one of the best studio celebrity portraits... based on what I'm not sure, as I don't know whose company I share. But it's really nice to have it printed as it hasn't been yet, and I love PDN, so pick it up after thanksgiving.

2. The lovely Lily Koppel who is a contributor for New York Times, currently has her book coming out on paperback. I photographed her a bit back for MissBehave and the issue is finally arriving. Check that out when you get a chance, and find out who Lily is because she is absolutely awesome. And beautiful. Very.

3. Love that Ed Westwick. Never really can get enough of him. Anyway, the photographs I took of him back in March have been published in Venice Magazine this month. There are two images that haven't been printed before either, so it's great to see those in print as well. Also, check out Ed's new movie with Famke Janssen.

4. The SPD auction was this past Wednesday and unfortunately I was unable to go, as I got in too late from Detroit. However, this piece of my father and I was up for auction because Hali Feldman asked me to be involved. I heard it was a good time, and was said I missed it. However, It's nice to know someone else has this image up somewhere.

5. So next month another book will be coming out with my work, and will be available at Barnes and Noble and what not. It's called Contemporary Fashion Photographers and is put out by Daab publishing. It's actually 12 pages of my studio work, which I really never put too much importance in. So, it's kind of nice to see those in print too.

So, yeah, lots of stuff being printed that hasn't been before and lots of things going on. More to come!

p.s. I know I haven't been as diligent talking about television as I'd like to be. I'm actually so far behind on lots of things. However, I did want to say one thing. UMMMM. Melissa George on Grey's Anatomy! I mean, I couldn't ask for anything better.

rad person of the day!

Zane Lewis is a pretty awesome dude. I'll tell you that much. We hung out a bit yesterday and had a few beers and I took some photographs of him. I basically wanted him to stop by to do one of my head-portraits of him, but I also did some quick studio work as well. Anyway, his work is pretty amazing, and you should check it out. The Obama one above obviously got a lot of attention. That's him below.

ZANE LEWIS ART and STUFF Just google him because he doesn't have a site with all his work.

this guy is awesome....

More to come this weekend... Lots to come this weekend actually. Just once I get some sleep.

5 things I like - Part one!

This is a two-part blog post.... so get ready for awesome-ness! This first part is of non-photographic related matters. I will be doing this every once in awhile, you know, to mix it up! So here are five things I think are awesome right now.

1. Jessica Lange has a photography book that just came out. It's actually amazing, and if you have the chance you should pick it up. They have it at Barnes and Noble and that whole jazz. It's published by the great guys over at PowerHouse and features photographs from all over the world that she has taken over the past 15 years.

2. DINO RIDERS!!!!! So since I have all my stuff from my family house, including everything from childhood, I discovered my DinoRiders. I was absolutely obsessed with these when I was a little kid, and even more obsessed with the cartoon. I'm building shelving to display all my dinosaurs in my studio, and currently downloaded all the episodes on my computer.

3. Alaska in Winter - Brandon Bethancourt - Brandon is the visionary behind Alaska in Winter. The new cd was released this past tuesday and is outstanding... download it on I-Tunes. I spoke to Brandon today, and will probably be photographing him this January, and I'm very excited about it.

4. Left 4 Dead - The best new video game on the market produced by Valve. Taking the zombie genre to its bare bones, Left 4 Dead is an online experience like no other on the Xbox 360. I'm fucking hooked and can't put it down.

5. Spooky Cute - Vinyl toy's by Danny Chan. I love animals. I love vinyl toys. I love Danny Chan. Enough said.

Stay tuned for part two coming this weekend!

see ya!

Well I'm off. Back to New York. Vacation time is over. Have a lot to do when I get back, and I'm already excited to get back into the swing of things. I have lots of upcoming projects/shows/interviews and all that fun stuff to talk about in the upcoming weeks. The blog has been getting more and more views, and I appreciate all the people keeping up with me. It's nice. Very nice. Again, if anyone has suggestions of things they'd like to see photographically, or more of, let me know! Enjoy your wednesday!

p.s. If you look closely you can see me in the glasses.... secrets!

sleep it away.

Just as a side-note I can't stop listening to The Softies lately. Definitely a winter band for me, and one of my all time favorites. These are the lyrics to my favorite song.

SLEEP AWAY YOUR TROUBLES

If I beg you will you smother me
Just to put me out of my constant misery
This is too much for me to bear
You'd know this too if you ever had been there

I hope you have sweet dreams
And I hope You never leave me

I wander thorugh these empty halls
As the moon casts shadows of just me upon the walls
My time wasted in endless regret
While you sleep away your troubles and forget

I hope you have sweet dreams
And I hope you never leave me

role models in a snowy cemetery.

I always make the titles to my blog entries run-on sentences that relate to what the post is about. Sometimes it's hard to actually have them make sense, but I try. Anyway, today was a good day. As you all know, I'm a huge huge huge dork. I like anything I can collect or display. ANYWAY, Nate works at this super cool store that sells lots of kidrobot stuff and alike. So of course I went a little overboard and bought a bunch of stuff. Above is one of the toys I got. While I could never keep up with actually collecting things how i'd like too, it's still fun to have things like this around to decorate my studio.

Besides hanging out at his job for a few hours, we did some snowy cemetery pictures this morning. It was great... although it was super duper cold. I'm taking out some strobes from the college tomorrow just so I can do some indoor stuff since I didn't bring lighting with me this trip. But it's too cold and gloomy to keep shooting outside. So we will see what I come up with.

I've been doing lots of work since I've been here. I'm finally editing all my digital photos that I keep putting off. I found these gems of Camille that I absolutely love, especially the color one above. He really is a great subject...even in a simple set up in the studio.

I also saw a bunch of movies since I got here. I saw Zack and Miri the other night, which was pretty good. I love Elizabeth Banks. So a movie with her can be so-so and I'll still enjoy it. THEN, I saw another Elizabeth Banks movie, Role Models, this evening. This movie was super duper awesome, and I encourage everyone to go see it. I had no real expectations of it, but surprisingly enjoyed it. Plus Sean William Scott is kind of a babe in my opinion. That's that.

rad person of the day!

I'm totally into Anne Hall lately. There is an incredible sense of mystery and discovery in her work. I'm just enthralled. Please take a look at her whole site, as she has some real interesting projects up.

ANNE HALL PHOTOGRAPHY!

the worst.

It seems wherever I go the weather is always terrible. More than it should be. Anyway, the weather has been rainy and miserable since I got here, so no photo taking yet. Hopefully I can get some stuff done by the time I leave.

when you come and go....

Well I'm no longer looking at that skyline, and am currently enjoying some down-time in Detroit again. I really can clear my head the most when I'm here... all obligations suddenly seem non-existant. Which is a very good thing. So I'm just going to do some work, sketch out some ideas and take some photographs. Other than that, it's easy streets for the next few days.

So I'm finally turning 25 soon, and it's weird to think another birthday is upon me. I'm not one for big celebrations... so I'll probably have some kind of dinner party or something of the sorts. I also plan on going to see Australia because I'm insanely excited for that film. It's weird not to have any family around at all to celebrate with me, but I guess that's what happens as people move forward in life.

p.s. It looks as though Prison Break is going to be getting the axe this season... nothing definite has been said yet, but it seems this will be the case. I'm not too sad about it actually... I don't think I could watch another season as I'm getting kind of bored.

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

detroit here I come.... again.

So I'm off tomorrow to the wonderful snowy bliss that is Detroit. Apparently I really like going to places that are ridiculously cold. Come January I'll be in Salt Lake City again for Sundance. Anywhere warm want me?!

p.s. Saw JCVD last night. Totally ridiculous and highly enjoyable. Not necessarily a movie you need to see in theaters, but one you should see nonetheless.

the french fucking letter.

So my boys Luis and PJ (James Ransone), had a show tonight. Their band is pretty awesome. The t-shirt (as seen above) is absolutely fantastic. I love a pop culture reference. Anyway, even though you haven't heard the band, you should buy the shirt. Cause it's great. If you are interested, email me at ryan@ryanpfluger.com They are only 12$ plus shipping and handling. Keep an eye out for the French Letter, because they make really great music.

this is the myspace - THE FRENCH LETTER

I felt like I was stretching all day today. My back has been killing me, probably because I have been working a lot in my lazy boy, which probably isn't the best thing to do. At least I'm getting shit done! Also, my tonsillitis is back.... balls! But whatevs....got to keep on keepin on.

I leave for Detroit on Thursday! It's snowing there, and I can't wait to take snowy photographs. Being in the city I don't really get the opportunity to do that, since it gets gross and slushy real fast. I'm also being smart and bringing my film with me, instead of expecting to find it when I'm there. Since that was a disaster last time. That's all for now!

p.s. Cyndi Lauper on Gossip Girl.... BEST THING EVER!

p.p.s. The new Stars EP is amazing, buy that shit.

to die for.

So I'm feeling kind of crappy today. No good. I am in the process of trying to quit smoking and it's making me real cranky. Really cranky. Other than that, just up to a bunch of errands today, which you know, makes you feel sort of accomplished for the day. I saw an excellent movie this weekend, To Let the Right One In. You really should go see it, if it's still in theaters by you. It's a really nice change of pace from the normal vampire movie and the cinematography is outstanding. Check it out.

p.s. One of my favorite movies of all time is To Die For. I watched it again this weekend and it made me realize why I love Nicole Kidman so much. That movie is one of her best performances by far. Also, Joaquin Phoenix is hot as hell in it. It's a shame he is "quitting" acting to pursue his singing career. I mean, come on Joaquin. Don't mess up a good thing.

Saturday, November 8, 2008

rad person of the day!

So I absolutely love animal photographs, especially when they are really smart and funny. Unfortunately, I am not a big fan of Corey's actual website. It's not simple enough for me to navigate. However, I really love some of his portraits. Anyway, take a chance to check them out.

take me away.

The weather is so dreary lately! I'm totally not ready for it. I want sunshine, beaches and a margarita. I need a warm vacation, instead of keep going to cold places. I go to Detroit next week, due to my cancelled flight last week. I'm also going to Sundance again this year, and I'm so psyched. Although I hope I am working this year....in some capacity.

I also miss Europe a ton. I miss Mauro. I miss Tuscany. It was such a wonderful escape from here. I am all about escaping. I hope one day me and Heather get our villa in Tuscany and keep it as our summer home. It's our dream.... that will become reality. Anyway, that's what I'm thinking about lately.

This weekend is going to be relaxing. I'm doing another editor shoot. Sally Berman of XXL is posing for me. I love her so much, and she is really beautiful so it should be a wonderful sunday afternoon. Other than that, I'm going to attempt to go see a few movies because I'm super backlogged.

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

yes we can.

What an incredible time yesterday was... and an eye-opening one as well. I won't go into a rant about Obama, as at this point it's unnecessary. His speech was amazing, and am so incredibly impressed with youth vote...as finally young voters actually went out and voted, instead of just talking about it. I look forward to seeing where America goes in the next four years, and am incredibly proud to be an American. However, there are things that make my sick to my stomach slightly that occurred yesterday. Arkansas has banned gay couples from adopting children...which just blows my mind actually. Arizona and Florida have added to the state constitutions to ban gay marriage. So much time, effort and money has been put into these issues from people who it does not effect. It just boggles my mind still.

ANYWAY! Today was a ridiculously tiring day. I spent the majority of it working on a fashion story. It went really well, an out-take is above. We all had a great time, the models were great, the staff was great...so it made it a relatively smooth day. Relatively. My pup has got the stomach aches lately, and I believe it's from switching her food. I hate when she is cranky... make me feel real bad.

I also, had a shoot on Monday with the incredible Johnny Iuzzini. Executive Pastry Chef at Jean Georges. He is pretty much the coolest dude ever, and I was super happy to have him as a subject. I'm actually probably going to shoot him again, not for work, just for fun. Other than that...life is same old same old.

oh p.s. My Mom and Dad are officially re-married. WEIRD!!!!!!!

Sunday, November 2, 2008

just one of those weeks.

Thank god for Sleater-Kinney when you are having a shitty week.... songs that make you even more depressed than you were.

Good Things -

got this feeling when i heard your name the other day
couldn't say it, couldn't make it go away
it's a hard place, can't be friends, we can't be enemies
it's just too much, feel the weight crushing down on my face

the hardest part is things already said
getting better, worse, i can not tell
why do good things never wanna stay?
some things you lose, some things you give away

broken pieces, try to make it good again
is it worth it, will it make me sick today
it's a dumb song, but i'll write it anyway
it's an old mistake, but we always make it, why do we

the hardest part is things already said
getting better, worse, i can not tell
why do good things never wanna stay?
some things you lose, some things you give away

this time, it'll be alright
this time, it'll be okay
this time, it'll be alright
this time, it'll be okay

the hardest part is things already said
getting better, worse, i can not tell
why do good things never wanna stay?
some things you lose, some things you give away
some things you lose, some things you give away

rad person of the day!

So this is my dear friend Gregg Evans. He assists me sometimes on ridiculous shoots where I need the company of a friend to share the experience with me. He is an outstanding photographer himself though. Take the time to look at his site and blog, he does some really interesting things.
